What is rahash?

Rahash is a hospitality sweet in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, served with Arabic coffee at gatherings and during Ramadan. Its main ingredient is tahini, so the tahini decides its taste and texture: the purer and smoother the tahini, the better and less bitter the rahash.

"Rahash" is also the name of our factory in Al Kharj, which makes Golden Luxury tahini and halawa. If you came for the dessert, here is how to make it; if you came for the factory, you are in the right place.

Quick homemade rahash

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pure liquid tahini
  • 1 cup milk powder
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (to taste)
  • ¼ tsp ground cardamom
  • Crushed pistachio to decorate

Steps

  1. Mix the milk powder, sugar and cardamom in a bowl.
  2. Add the tahini gradually and stir until it holds together like a soft dough.
  3. Spread it in a small tray and press it firmly.
  4. Top with pistachio and press lightly so it sticks.
  5. Chill for two hours, cut into squares and serve with coffee.

Tip: use 100% pure tahini for a light colour and no bitterness. For a quicker option, pistachio tahini halawa is very close to rahash and ready to serve.
